This last week, I have felt the need to slow down a little. Everything felt rushed and I wondered what I was missing out on or passing by. Usually, when I feel like this, I try to slow down by taking the time to look around and really experience my surroundings. Especially when I am walking around. (That is, of course, if I am not running late.) Yesterday evening I noticed I had left earlier than I needed to, and found the perfect opportunity to do this. I was able to walk a little slower than my usual pace and notice things. Things like how beautiful the sky looks in the evening, who still had christmas lights in their window, someone’s really adorable dog. And then I saw it, a blue garbage bag catching what was left of the afternoon light. It was throwing an orange-y glow that was cast from the dim street lights. So I stopped to look more closely, and there I stood taking the time to really look at a garbage bag . (Yes, there were a few fellow-pedestrians who became quite miffed at the obstruction I created in the sidewalk-traffic-flow.) I don’t know why it was so enthralling to me, but the image just stuck. I had to paint it. I think it was more the experience of stopping and finding something brilliant which captivated me. Anyway, I hope you are able to take the time to stop and look. (Maybe try it this weekend?). Enjoy your Friday!
